Watermelon Picking in Costco

I was in Costco with family the other day just to get some grocery shopping done. I had never realized that Costco was the place people go to for watermelons in the summer. They had a large section in the fruits isle just for those watermelons. The neighborhood of Costco where I went to was very concentrated with Asian and Hispanic families, so there were many older ladies bending down into the watermelon boxes and petting on the watermelon. They are testing the sounds of fully matured watermelon. According to the more experienced personal, a more hallow sound indicates that the watermelon is more on the raw side, while a fully matured watermelon will sound fuller when you lightly pet on the surface.

If I had not know about this, I probably would have no idea what those people are doing. We got to Costco in the afternoon, and by that time, the good watermelons were all picked and gone. What resulted from the scene were all the watermelons that did not pass the petting test and moved to the side. I find this one box with all of the watermelons pushed to the side with one empty gap at the bottom, and was surprised that people would actually bothered to move all of the watermelons just to get the perfect one.
